Three hugely successful humanitarian missions to Juan de Acosta, Medellin and Bogota Colombia were undertaken by Phillip J. Hardt, Dr. Luis Velazquez, MD and Clara Girlado. Medellin and Juan de Acosta were visited on April 3-18, 2006 Juan de Acosta on February 17-25, 2007 and Bogota and Juan de Acosta on November 9-22, 2008! Juan de Acosta has the second highest concentration of Person's with HD in the world, right after Lake Maricoba in Venezuela!

The very small rural town of Juan de Acosta is home to hundreds and hundreds of impoverished families struggling with HD. The average monthly income is only $40 US dollars per month. Imagine caring for your loved one with HD without running potable water or electricity? Imagine at-risk cousins marrying other at-risk cousins and having babies.

A family history was taken of Luis Echeverria, the Spanish sailor with Huntington's Disease who landed there in approximately 1790. He married Josefa Arteta and decided to stay and raise their family there. We collected 975 names of their descendents.
